I was born and raised in Bristol, TN then I moved to Chattanooga, TN, to attend college. I graduated with my bachelor's in business marketing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I then attended law school at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, FL. Upon graduating law school, I was hired as an Assistant State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit. I have dedicated my career as a public servant where I currently work in the Special Victims Unit at the State Attorney's Office. I prosecute cases of online exploitation of children, sexual molestation of children, human trafficking, aggravated child abuse, and homicides with children victims. I have handled thousands of cases through my career as an Assistant State Attorney. I have tried over 70 jury and non-jury trials ranging from DUI to First Degree Murder. I am in court daily advocating for our communities most vulnerable, our children. I am also a wife to my college sweetheart, Tyler, and a mother to my 4-year-old son, Deacon. We live in Pasco County, and we are members of Idlewild Baptist Church.
  • My judicial philosophy is I am a textualist. That means that I believe it is a Judge's role to follow the law as it is written and not to legislate from the bench.
  • I believe a Circuit Judge should have current courtroom experience including significant trial experience.
  • I believe a Judge should have a calm demeanor on the bench and treat all parties appearing before the Court with respect.
I currently work within my capacity as an Assistant State Attorney in the Special Victims Unit with foster children. I am passionate about helping nonprofits in our community support our vulnerable foster care children.
My judicial philosophy is textualism, which means as a Judge I would follow the law as it is written. A book that I have found most helpful in understanding a Judge's role is "Reading Law" authored by the late United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
I am a public servant at heart who shows up every day and works diligently and thoroughly on some of the most sensitive and high-pressure cases at the State Attorney's Office. I believe I have the courtroom experience, fortitude, and humility to best serve the citizens of Pasco and Pinellas counties as the next Circuit Court Judge, Group 9.
I have been endorsed by the Tampa Bay Times, Suncoast Police Benevolence Association, Fraternal Order of Police, District 3, as well as other local elected officials, attorneys, and business owners. For a more complete list please visit www.votespurlock.com/supporters
