Katherine Clark (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District. She assumed office on December 12, 2013. Her current term ends on January 3, 2027.

Clark (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District. She declared candidacy for the 2026 election.[source]

Biography

Katherine Clark was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1963.[1] She earned her bachelor's degree in history from St. Lawrence University in 1985, her J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1989, and her M.P.A. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1997.[2] Her professional experience includes working as an attorney, as General Counsel of the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services, and as Prosecutor for the Colorado Attorney General's Office. From 2001 to 2007, she served on the Melrose, Massachusetts, school committee, in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2008 to 2010, and the Massachusetts State Senate from 2010 to 2013.[1]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Democratic. Incumbent Katherine Clark (D) was the only candidate to file in the district. Because of this, Clark won re-election by default in the November 8, 2016 general election.[8][9]

2013

Clark was a 2013 Democratic candidate seeking election to the U.S. House representing the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts.[10] The election was held to replace outgoing Rep. Ed Markey (D) who was elected to the U.S. Senate in the June 25th election for John Kerry's vacant seat after his appointment as Secretary of State.[11][12]

She defeated Peter Koutoujian, Karen Spilka, Will Brownsberger, Carl Sciortino, Martin Long and Paul John Maisano in the Democratic primary on October 15, 2013.[13] She defeated Frank Addivinola (R), James Hall and James Aulenti in the general election on December 10, 2013.[14][13]
