I moved to Southwest Indiana in 1979. My husband and I have been married for forty years. We have four children and three grandchildren.

In 2020 I retired from my position as a civil legal aid attorney after forty years of service. My work included advocacy for victims of domestic violence, nursing home residents, seniors trying to navigate our complicated Medicaid programs, debtors crushed by harsh collection practices, and individuals with criminal records seeking a fresh start. I also educated the public about their legal rights.

I currently work as a part-time public defender and family mediator.

I served on the founding boards of Albion Fellows Bacon Center and Guardianship Services of Southwestern Indiana. I volunteer as a VITA tax preparer and a guardian for individuals with disabilities.

  • I will fight for reproductive freedom, access to health care and the ability of doctors to care for their patients without fear of criminal charges or professional sanctions.
  • Indiana needs policies that advance quality fo life and educational attainment to attract and keep businesses. I will promote policies that strengthen our public schools, improve the quality and availability of child care, and promote the health and safety of my constituents.
  • The state should protect captive ratepayers from the monopoly power of its public utilities. Last winter CenterPoint gas bills were more than double what they were just the year before. Our utilitiy rates are among the highest in the state. Our current legislative scheme fails to rein in the monopoly power of our utilities. I will support legislation to increase the weight given to affordability in rate cases. I will support the return of Energize Indiana and a fair version of net metering. I will support popular elections for the head of the Office of the Utility Consumer Counselor. I will seek ways to promote rooftop and community solar, storage, and demand management to address capacity issues.
In addition to the three key messages discussed above, I am passionate about policies that help lift people out of poverty. In my work as a legal aid lawyer, I saw clients caught in a debt trap from which they could not escape. A financial setback would cause them to be unable to pay rent. Failure to pay rent would lead to them being evicted. The eviction would result in a judgment for back rent, damages, attorney fees, and 8% interest. Once they got a job, they would often be surprised to learn that 25% of their wages were garnished, which would cause them to be unable to pay childcare or other necessity, which would then leave them unable to work. I would like to protect a basic income so that debtors can take care of their families, and then garnish 10% of the amount they earn above the basic income level. I would like to increase the protection for bank accounts from $450.00 to $1000.00, so that debtors don't have their rent money seized from their bank account.
