Katherine Welch
Katherine Welch was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 9 of the California State Senate. She says of her bid for office: "I hope to return California public education to greatness, and to stop the siphoning of funds to special interests when they should be going to our schools. I chose to run because I want to be a voice for children and other vulnerable populations who do not have the money or power to lobby."[1]
Biography
Welch earned her A.B. in public policy from Duke University in 1983 and her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1988. She is the Chair of Educate our State and has worked in financial, accounting and business planning positions at a number of companies. Welsh is also a member of the National Charity League.[1]

Elections for the California State Senate took place in 2016. The primary election was held on June 7, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was February 25, 2016, for candidates filing with signatures. The deadline for candidates using a filing fee to qualify was March 11, 2016.[2] Incumbent Loni Hancock (D) did not seek re-election.
