Kathleen Butz
Kathleen Butz was a judge of the California 3rd District Court of Appeal. She assumed office on October 15, 2003. She left office on July 1, 2020.
Butz was first appointed to the court by Gov. Gray Davis (D). She assumed office on October 15, 2003.[1] She was retained by voters in 2010.[2]
Education
Butz graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1972. Before attending law school, she worked for several years for the University of California at Davis School of Engineering and the Shields Library. Butz earned her J.D. from the UC Davis King Hall School of Law in 1981.[1]
Career
From 1982 to 1996, Butz was in private practice with the law firms Berliner & Spiller and Spiller, McProud, Butz & Kraemer in Nevada City, California. She was elected to the Nevada County Superior Court in 1996 and served as the presiding judge from 2001 to 2002. She was also the presiding judge on the Family & Juvenile Court for Nevada County and a supervising judge on the Nevada County Civil Grand Jury. Butz was also a faculty member for the B.E. Witkin Judicial College of California and the California Center for Judicial Education and Research.[1][3]
