Kathleen Torres Hazelton is a retired nurse, veteran, homemaker, and concerned California citizen who wants to help rebuild California to its former glory.

Kathleen attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, earning a BA degree in chemistry and BS degree in nursing. She later attended the University of Utah, where she earned an MSN degree in nurse-midwifery. Kathleen served for 12 years in the United States Air Force as a staff nurse and certified nurse-midwife. She and her husband met in the Air Force, and they moved to the great state of California in 2006. Kathleen became a stay-at-home mom to homeschool their two children.

Kathleen's father was an immigrant from Mexico. He worked as a physician for the Veterans Administration Hospital (now the Veterans Health Administration), and the family moved frequently as a result of his VA assignments. Kathleen's experience of living in a variety of communities in the heartland of America, raising a family, serving in the military, working as a certified nurse-midwife, and volunteering for political campaigns has given her a breadth of practical and applied knowledge and wisdom. This experience will enhance her work for everyday Californians, rather than government interests.

  • "It is a Senator's duty to protect the liberty of the people." Kathleen will work to Repeal AB5 in order to restore the freedom for all Californians to choose the work they desire, and support small businesses in their use of independent contractors and freelancers.
  • Kathleen will fight for lower taxes in order to protect property ownership and the building of small businesses, which are the heartbeat of our State economy.
  • Kathleen will work to protect 2nd Amendment freedoms, encourage community safety, and protect the rights of the unborn.
Safety for our citizens. We must support our law enforcement and build bridges between the community and police.

Repeal of AB5. People should not lose their entire livelihood and businesses over an ill-conceived and punitive law created for the Labor Unions. Special interests should not dictate how people choose to work!
Lower taxes so people can maintain their homes and businesses. No on Prop 15!
Protection for the unborn.
Strong Borders.
Competitive, quality health care.
Support for our Veterans.
Conservative water and land resources management.

School choice. Parents should have the ability to choose moral and accurate education for our children.
That I helped the people of California.
I was an ICU nurse at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. I worked there for a year, and then I joined the Air Force, which was both challenging and rewarding. Being in the armed services was one of the most formative times of my life.
The Bible. It has permeated my whole life.
Prior political experience can be beneficial but is not necessary. Political experience can add another layer of remoteness from the people, and result in a feeling of entitlement in the legislator. I am running to increase the accessibility for the people I represent.
Providing for a healthy, prosperous living for the people of California.

Protecting the unborn.
Managing our natural resources effectively to provide prosperity to Californians.
Restoring the homeless to a productive lifestyle.
Enabling independent contractors to return to gainful and profitable employment.
Overhauling the state school system so it serves the needs of the children rather than the unions.
Restoring safety and security.
Small business needs to go back to work in an environment free of excessive regulation and taxation.
Empowering our police officers to do their jobs effectively.
Reducing taxes so that Californians can keep more of their hard-earned money.

Ensuring that taxes are spent effectively for the benefit of all Californians rather than special interests.
All the AB5 stories are really pathetic and sad. People have lost employment because of this bill that the Governor chose to sign into law; it needs to be repealed to allow people the freedom to work as they choose.
