Kathryn D. Messerich was a Minnesota First Judicial District judge for Dakota County, Minnesota. She was appointed to this position on March 9, 2004 by Gov. Pawlenty, and she retired from the court on September 2, 2021.[1][2]

Education

Messerich obtained three degrees: a bachelor of science in nursing from Northern Michigan University (1979); a master of science in maternal-child nursing from the University of Minnesota (1984); and a J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law (1987).[1]

Career

Prior to joining the District Court, Judge Messerich worked as a private practiced lawyer for nearly 20 years. She practiced with Lommen, Nelson, Cole & Stageberg, P.A. from 1987 to 1991 and with Bassford, Lockhart, Truesdell & Briggs, P.A. from 1991 to 1997 (she became a shareholder of this firm in 1992). From 1997 to 2000, she worked for Alina Health System as Associate General Counsel for Litigation. She then worked as a shareholder in the firm of Halleland, Lewis, Nilan, Sipkins & Johnson, P.A until she joined the District Court.[1]

Awards and associations

Messerich has worked with the Hennepin County Bar Association 4th District Ethics Committee, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and the Minnesota District Judges Association.[1]

Elections

2012

Messerich ran for re-election to the First Judicial District against challenger Brian A. Gravely.[3] She won with 64.92% of the vote.[4]
