What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
As a Representative, my top three priorities would be: 1) to pass a sustainable budget that provides the state services Alaskans need, 2) to ensure that we have a fully funded, quality pre-K through University education system and to diversify our economy to create the opportunities Alaskans need to build successful lives
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about economic development. I have seen how careful community economic development planning and smart policy can create opportunities for Alaskans to build skills and knowledge and create businesses that are economic drivers in our communities. Alaska has a great deal of potential and I'm excited by the opportunity to build our future together.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
I believe the most important characteristics an elected official can have are an open and curious mind, ability to work well with others, and a commitment to honestly represent the people who elect them.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I like to understand things. As an Assembly member, I've worked hard to listen to what people tell me, ask questions to make sure I understand, and weigh different options and possibilities to determine the best course of action in any given situation. I believe that my curious analytical approach, my honest commitment to evaluate the results of the decisions I make, and my reputation for working with others would serve our community well in the legislature.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibilities of a legislator are to listen and promote policies that benefit Alaskans and to oppose those policies that don't move Alaska forward.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I try to leave things in better shape than when i found them. I would like to leave a legacy of respectfully working together to develop a sustainable budget that will serve our state for generations to come.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Finding and agreeing to a sustainable budget system, including investing in diversifying our economy to create fiscal stability independent of fluctuating oil prices and finding solutions to our substance abuse and mental health crisis.
