Kathryn E. Creswell was the chief judge of the Eighteenth Circuit Court of Illinois.[1] She was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2001 and elected to a full term the following year. In September 2014, Creswell was unanimously elected by the judges of the court to succeed Judge John T. Elsner as chief judge, starting on December 1, 2014.[2] She retired from the bench effective November 30, 2017.[3][4]

Creswell previously served as an associate judge of the Eighteenth Circuit Court from 1995 until her appointment as a circuit judge in 2001.[4]

Creswell earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from DePaul University. Her experience includes service as the presiding judge of the Statewide Grand Jury in Northern Illinois and as a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, the Supreme Court Committee on Illinois Evidence, the Supreme Court e-Business Policy Advisory Board, the Special Supreme Court Committee on Capital Cases, and the Illinois Judicial Benchbook on Criminal Law Committee.[4]

Creswell was retained to the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court with 81 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [5] 

Evaluations

The Illinois State Bar Association and participating attorneys rated Creswell as Recommended for retention in a 2014 poll.[6]
