Kathryn Grill Graeff is a judge of the Appellate Court of Maryland 3rd Appellate Circuit. She assumed office on September 2, 2008. Her current term ends on December 31, 2030.
Graeff ran for re-election for judge of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals 3rd Appellate Circuit (Historical). She won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.
Graeff was appointed to the court by Governor Martin O'Malley (D) on August 7, 2008, and was sworn into office on September 2, 2008.[1][2][3] She was retained in 2010.[4]
The Maryland Court of Special Appeals became the Appellate Court of Maryland, following a 2022 constitutional amendment that changed the court's name.[5]
Education
Graeff received her B.A. from Marquette University in 1983 and her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1986.[3]
Career
Graeff joined the law firm Smith, Somerville, & Case as an associate in 1986. In 1990, she joined the Office of the Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Division as an assistant attorney general. In 1999, Graeff was promoted to deputy chief and in 2002, she became the chief of the Criminal Appeals Division. She held this position until her appointment to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, later known as the Appellate Court of Maryland, in 2008.[3]
