Kathryn Smith
Kathryn N. Smith was a judge for the Eighth District Court in Minnesota, serving Kandiyohi County. She was appointed to the court on May 5, 1997, and was elected to full terms in 1998 and 2004. She retired on June 3, 2013, and assumed status as a senior judge until June 30, 2015.[1]
Education
Smith received a Medical Technologist (M.T.) degree from the University of Nebraska in 1972, a B.S. from Iowa State University in 1972, an M.S. degree from the University of Iowa in 1976 and a J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1992.[1]
Career
Smith began her career working as a supervisor for the Fresno Community Hospital Microbiology and Immunology Laboratories and as an Science instructor at Willmar Community College. She entered the legal field in 1992, working as an attorney for the firm of Schmidt, Thompson, Johnson & Moody until her judicial appointment in 1997.[1]
2010 election
Smith ran for re-election in 2010. She defeated Glen M. Jacobsen in the general election, winning 60.3 percent of the vote.[2]
