Kathryn E. Zenoff is a judge on the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court. She was assigned to this position in May 2022 and joined the court on June 1 of that year.[1] She previously served on the Illinois Second District Appellate Court from 2007 to 2022.[2]
Zenoff also maintains a seat on the Illinois Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court. Although she is serving as an appellate judge and is temporarily free from her circuit court duties, she must face a retention election to the 17th Circuit Court every six years. Zenoff was retained in 2022.[3]
Education
Zenoff received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and her J.D. from the Columbia University Law School.[2]
Career
Zenoff began her legal career as a lawyer in New York City and Chicago. She also served as an assistant state's attorney in the counties of Cook and Winnebago. She was appointed to the 17th Judicial Circuit Court as an associate judge in 1995. She was promoted to circuit judge in 1998. She served as the chief judge of this court from 2003 until her assignment to the appellate court in 2007.[2]

Judges of the Illinois Circuit Court stand for retention after their first full term. To be retained, a judge must receive at least 60 percent of the vote.[4][5] Kathryn Zenoff was retained in the Illinois Seventeenth Circuit Court, Kathryn Zenoff Retention Election with 83.84 percent of the vote.
