Kathy Meyer is a life-long Kansan. Having grown up on a farm in rural Olathe, she knows the value of hard work and being resourceful. Her 38 year career as a teacher, 36 of those in Olathe Public Schools, has been an indication of her dedication to others. Kathy is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and Mid America Nazarene University. Working with others and listening to their needs has helped her address the concerns of others. Her colleagues elected her to be President of Olathe NEA. She served in this role during the time of district leadership changes and helped the relationship between teachers and administration grow stronger. Kathy knows the importance of reaching out to others to work together to address the issues of importance to the constituents. Kathy attends many events that enhance our community and volunteers as well. Listening to and working with others is her strength. She is a hard-working, dedicated leader who is ready to represent others in Topeka.
  • Public Education is the foundation of our society and needs to be adequately funded.
  • Affordable Health Care must be available to everyone. Kansas needs to expand Medicaid.
  • Economy and Responsible Governing are areas of great concern. Changes must be made to convince citizens that we are listening.
domestic violence, child welfare, and fair representation
Hard worker, dedicated, diligent, concerned and patient are words that come to mind. If successful, I promise to listen to and represent the people of House District 78. I plan to work with others who are interested in finding solutions that benefit Kansans.
The core responsiblities of any elected official is to represent the constituents, with honesty, dedication, and trustworthiness. An elected offical needs to be able and ready to help draft and review legislation that will benefit the state and people they represent. Promoting good governance - which includes transparency - is also important.
My very first paying job would have been babysitting neighborhood children.
Once I was old enough to be hired elsewhere, I worked at a place called Snappy's which was a hamburger carry out restaurant connected to a sit-down restaurant. I eventually worked as the hostess in the restaurant as well. I held this job all through high school until I left to attend college.
With the Covid-19 pandemic, this answer has changed. Every state will be dealing with the ramifications and costs that have become paramount in dealing with this pandemic. The economy will be a great challenge. Attracting and retaining businesses may become more important. We must be nimble enough to realize that the types of businesses may also change. Working from home has proven that technology is absolutely necessary. Broadband service will need to be expanded so everyone has access.
Other items that will challenge us are water and climate issues, equitable accessiblity to health care, technology and public services.
Relationships are important in working with others. I believe that working together is of utmost importance. Collaboration allows more to get done and works to allow everyone to see a means of working for the greater good. I firmly understand that collaboration does not mean everyone will get "their way" but attempt to compromise and see if there is a road to helping others. We should all be in this together to make Kansas the best place to live.
I believe redistricting must be fair and carefully considered. There needs to be a thoughtful process by which the numbers work and no gerrymandering is done to allow an advantage to any group.
