Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

Katie Darling is a businesswoman with a serious commitment to public safety and the ongoing fight for gender equality. She ran a successful manufacturing business here in Louisiana, working with local sugarcane farms while increasing tourism. She served on the board of multiple state-wide business associations before transitioning to her current role in the education technology sector. Drawn to the first district's unique coastal landscapes and commitment to public safety and education, Katie resides in Covington with her husband and daughter on their family farm. Her dedication to reproductive rights and a sustainable, thriving Louisiana for her growing family and future generations led to her eleventh-hour run for Congress. The time is now for a new generation of leadership focused on building a better future for Louisiana.
  • REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS - Now is the time to codify the reproductive rights afforded by Roe V. Wade into law. The House of Representatives passed the Women's Health Protection Act. Partisan politics are preventing the legislation from moving forward in the Senate despite most Americans supporting the right to choose: the time is now to elect bipartisan representatives.
  • EDUCATION: Modern education leads to a better economic future. Louisiana's children deserve a world-class education that begins at pre-k 3. We can support strong academic leadership in the classroom by providing competitive salaries and recruiting top educators. Academic success is the foundation of our economic future.
  • STORM MITIGATION: With the ocean heating and rising sea level, we have to invest in our infrastructure to prevent severe life-threatening damage to our homes and communities. We deserve to live peacefully during the summer, knowing our infrastructure will keep us safe. We must reinforce flood protection around Lake Pontchartrain, prevent water buildup upstream during storms, provide tree removal programs and evacuation support, and work with insurance companies to offer affordable and sustainable policies.
