Noteworthy events

Election campaign donations

King's father, Metro councilman Jim King, made a cash gift of $145,000 during her election campaign, which she contributed to her campaign fund. Local blogger Ed Springston filed a complaint with the Kentucky Registry on Election Finance, and Jim King responded by defending the legality of the gifts. "In a preliminary finding, the registry concluded that the use of the gifts in the campaign broke the law, but because the violations appeared to be unknowing, they have been recommended for conciliation".[9][10]

The Kings settled the case against them by each agreeing to pay $15,000. The Kentucky Registry of Election Finance found that Jim King violated the law by making a gift over the donation limit of $1,000 and that Katie King violated the law by accepting the gift.[11]
