I am a mom of 2 children; boots on the ground, and a fiscally responsible business woman. I was born in Vietnam. My family lost everything after the Fall of Saigon; my brave father loaded my family and thirty other migrants on a boat to escape the tyranny, oppression, and violence of the communist regime. We crossed the Pacific Ocean with nothing but the clothes on our backs to seek refuge in Hong Kong. It has been estimated that 200,000 to 400,000 people who tried to flee Vietnam by boat never made it to safety. My father's courage and perseverance gave everyone on that boat a chance to build their best life. He is my constant inspiration to advocate for children. During the COVID-19 pandemic a crisis hit close to home for me and my husband. Our daughter suffered depression from lockdowns and school closures in the summer of 2021. Her struggles ignited my advocacy for our children in September of 2021.
Our school system requires reformation to meet today’s challenges. I will work with fellow board members along with parental involvement, shifting our focus to helping our children achieve academic proficiency, providing transparency in academic achievement reporting, and improving how resources are spent. We must ensure that our students have the highest quality education possible by running a school system that best prepares them for their future success.
