Students
Students deserve policies that support excellent education first. There is much room for improvement for those students who are Advanced Placement or are using an Independent Education Plan. The goal for all students is not only excellent test scores. True success is having those students graduate from high school with all the tools they need to be productive and fulfilled adults. Students should be prepared for entering college if this is their goal, without having to take remedial classes.
Teachers
Teachers are the life blood of quality education and I believe they need relevant continuing education. They need flexibility to not just teach kids to test well or have a year’s worth of growth in education. They also need be able to teach children to love to learn, a gift that they can carry into adulthood.
Accountability
As the old adage goes, you can’t change what you don’t acknowledge. It isn’t enough for the School Board to make good policy. Members should also be willing to expose those areas that can be improved. They need to encourage members of the community to contribute at School Board meetings and welcome an exchange of ideas. The community cares passionately about our schools, and as a school board member, I plan to capitalize on that passion for the betterment of our kids.
Responsibility
I believe that it is important to treat the Taxpayer’s money with even more care than my own. Dollars spent should translate to a tangible increase in benefit to our schools. As the tax burden increases, many families feel that they are forced to choose between funding their child’s education or spending money for extra-curricular activities and even family necessities. I believe that as a school board member, I can do more to preserve funds for areas of education that truly count.
School Board
The School Board holds the responsibility of making policy that recognizes and then solves areas that need improvement in education. They owe it to the community to be transparent and follow Sunshine Laws. As a school board member, I will fulfill my duty to students, parents, administrators and the community as a whole to produce excellent schools in the Olentangy Local School District.
