After growing up in Omaha, I graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree focused on accounting. I then worked for a Big 4 accounting firm in the Financial Services sector, primarily in New York, for more than a decade. There, I led teams on projects varying from an initial public offering (IPO), to valuation and accounting for mortgage-backed securities and audits of Fortune 500 companies.
With a passion for a higher functioning government, I will use my skills to improve our Assessor’s office. With over $1.2 billion in property taxes collected from Douglas County property owners, assessing properties is an important function in our community to ensure this tax is fair and accurate.
As Douglas County Assessor, I will modernize the office--starting with a new computer-assisted mass appraisal system that uses primarily comparable sales for assessments. Each property would be revalued annually, and changes in property assessments would generally be smaller due to more frequent valuations. I will also focus more on public engagement, educating the public on the process and improving communication between the office and citizens.
- We need Fair, Accurate, & Up To Date Property Valuations: Property values in Douglas County should be more accurate. Kay has the drive and knowledge to improve this process and bring a fresh perspective with her more than a decade of experience working across the country at a Big 4 accounting firm.
- We need better Public Engagement: Kay will listen to YOU, take YOUR feedback, and work to improve our local government. She will educate citizens on how to best address their concerns about their property values with multiple town hall meetings.
- We need Fiscal Conservative Values: With her accounting degree from Georgetown University and business experience, Kay will bring efficiency, effectiveness, and creative solutions to the Assessor/Register of Deeds office and the effort to lower property taxes.
