My name is Kay Friedly and I am a 7-year resident of Troy, Ohio. I am running for a position as Troy City Council Member at Large. I am currently the Republican Precinct Representative for Troy Precinct 3-A. As a Christian and U.S. Air Force Veteran, I believe I can represent the values and interests of the majority of the citizens of Troy. I am both a Constitutional and a fiscal conservative who seeks to reduce taxes, limit government to the actual needs of the people of Troy, and uphold the rights and privileges of the highest law of our land, the United States Constitution.
  • I will uphold Christian values and moral standards, starting with my own life and encouraging these values and standards in our community. I believe this is the best way to grow as individuals and as a city.
  • Too many of our rights and privileges as U.S. citizens have been eroded in recent years. I will do all I can to reclaim our Constitutional territory.
  • I currently serve as a Republican Precinct Representative, which makes me a part of the local Republican Central Committee. I have and will continue to challenge the Republican Party here to lead with integrity, clarity, and genuine concern for the long-term benefit of the citizens of Troy.
Election integrity; education of our children as to the true facts of our nation's history; and providing what is needed for healthy, thriving families to live here in safety and the full enjoyment of small town living.
City Council members make the local rules and laws that govern Troy within the limits of current state and federal laws. Troy can be a great example of how to have a community in which law-abiding citizens thrive and those who overstep the rights of others are stopped. We would all like to see criminal behaviors re-directed, but this is not always possible. When it is not possible, steps must be taken to protect those who are responsibly contributing to the benefit of the community.
President Trump is one person I look up to. I admire his tenacity and wisdom in the face of often ludicrous persecution. I also appreciate his decisiveness in action when dealing with complex world situations and events. He has done more to promote and protect people of faith, especially Christians and Jews, throughout the world as well as here at home, of any recent U.S. President.
Honesty and integrity proven by a history of living this out are essential for any elected official. Life experience and the ability to withstand a slick sales promotion that could have negative long-term consequences for Troy's residents are important characteristics as well.
I am a good listener and a lifelong learner. I have the ability to control my emotions in public and consider more than one point of view on an issue. I am decisive once I have explored the information on a topic and am willing to take action to resolve issues.
Since Council members control a lot of the spending of Troy's taxes and grants, a core responsibility should be researching the best use of those funds.
I would like to make a positive impact on my community that will last beyond my lifetime. I am much more interested in results and solutions to problems than I am in fame or money.
I remember the Moon Landing as a huge deal when I was a child. I was 13 when it happened and I remember being filled with great pride in our nation's accomplishment and excitement for the possibilities of our future.
Child care/babysitting--from teen years throughout most of my life. I do love children.
The Bible is my hands down favorite. It gives me wisdom, guidance, strength, hope and its application has brought me joy as well as gratitude to its Author.
Weariness at times has been a struggle. I am able to overcome it with a strong sense of optimism that if I do my best, God will do the rest.
More people need to know that the City Council is the main legislative body of the City of Troy. If citizens would like to see local rules, regulations and laws changed, this is where to start.
The ability to research the most cost-effective, safe and lasting ways to take care of the needs of the city is a skill that would be very helpful. A willingness to consider the concerns and suggestions of the residents of Troy is essential. Also, being able and willing to communicate the options available and why a specific route is being recommended to accomplish a task is important.
Government should always be held accountable to the governed. This cannot occur without enough financial transparency to allow the taxpayers to fully understand how their money is being spent as well as what some of the viable alternatives might be. This information should be readily available to every tax-paying citizen and the input of citizens should be seriously considered.
