Kaye Cope
Kaye Cope was a judge of the Whitfield County Magistrate Court in Georgia.[1] She resigned, effective June 30, 2016, after she was arrested for driving under the influence.[2]
Cope was pulled over on June 25 for failure to maintain a lane. She had previously been at the jail for first appearance hearings for people that had been arrested the night before. According to the police report, jail personnel could smell alcohol on her breath. Her attorney later made the following statement:
“ | Kaye has served the citizens of Whitfield County for many, many, many years. She regrets she is in this position and so the best thing for her and the citizens is to go ahead and resign so a replacement can be made. All of this is very embarrassing to her. She has been a longtime employee of Whitfield County working in the probation office, DA’s office and the court for more than 30 years. She is struggling to put this unfortunate incident behind her. It doesn’t reflect well on the court, and she will resign, effective Thursday.[3] | ” |
