Biography

Kayode Abegunde was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Ado Ekiti in Nigeria and an M.B.A. in finance and healthcare administration from Wilmington University. As of 2020, Abegunde was attending Wilmington University to obtain his doctor of social science degree in prevention science. He also took Ph.D. courses at Capella University for two years and received an honorary doctorate degree in data management. Abegunde's professional experience includes working as a senior program director, accountant, deacon, insurance executive, auditor, financial analyst, principal consultant, CEO and politician.[1][2][3][4] He has been affiliated with Keystone Human Services and the New Castle County Government.[4]

My name is Kayode Abegunde. I live in Bear Delaware. I have over 18 years of experience in public, profit, and non-profit sectors. I have served in various capacities as an Accountant, Marketing Executive, Insurance Agent, Financial Analyst, Consultant, Tax specialist, Investigator, Auditor, Project Manager, and currently Director of Services and Operations with Keystone Human Services and Principal Consultant, Entrepreneurial Consulting LLC. I am a certified member of several professional bodies both locally and internationally. Past member, the Citizen Budget Committee Charter School of New Castle, Delaware. I led the audit team of the Llangollen Estate Civic Association as the past chairman and past vice president of the Llangollen Estates Civic Association in New Castle and currently a Treasurer for 15th RD of Delaware Democratic Party. I was appointed as a Commissioner for Behavioral and Mental Health in 2018 by Governor Carney. I am appointed by Matt Meyer, a new castle county executive, as a board member Financial Advisory Council. I ran in 2020 for the Delaware State Insurance Commissioner and lost to the incumbent. I am glad to also inform you that I will be running again as Delaware State Insurance Commissioner comes 2024 under Democratic Party.

We are in a different and unique climate period; it requires a different approach and a different leader that will listen, advocate, and fight for all. As your candidate when elected my focus will be centered around the following vision

I will advocate for consumer protection, and enforce the policies aimed at regulating the insurance market on a (win-win) approach for both the consumers and the insurance companies, I will work with the insurance companies to enhance transparency and fairness in the assessment of premiums billed to the consumers, I will encourage the use of technology and digitization to leverage the markets to reduce costs and ensure reliable insurance coverage at a reasonable rate for all Delaware Consumers, and I will encourage the use of insurance terms that the community understands.[5]
