A vote about whether to recall Keeny Escalanti from his position as president of the Quechan tribe in Yuma, Arizona took place on June 26, 2012. Escalanti retained his position.[1] Escalanti has completed one year of a four-year term.
Reasons for recall
Cryselle Uribe, a former Quechan councilwoman, was a recall supporter. Reasons for recall included dissatisfaction with the current administration's interpretation of the tribal constitution and an alleged lack of transparency about tribal finances.[1]
Path to the ballot
According to the Quechan tribal constitution, members may seek to recall a president or other council member with at least 100 verified signatures on a petition. Recall supporters collected 144 signatures on Escalanti's petition.[1]
