Who are you? Tell us about yourself in 200 words or less.
I am a dedicated husband and father of a one year old daughter and I am deeply concerned with the direction our schools are headed. As more and more leftist ideals and woke talking points find their way into our culture, they inevitably end up in our classrooms, libraries, and teacher training materials. I am running for school board a full four years before my child will be set to attend public school so that I have time to push back against this destructive agenda before it can truly take root.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign.
- Transparency is key! I will dive deep into the budget and find out where our money is being spent.
- CRT, Gender theory, and Social Emotional Learning are the biggest threats we are facing when it comes to our children and their futures. I oppose these false ideologies and I always will.
- The "Team of 8" approach to how a school board should operate removes the oversight that a school board is supposed to represent by incorporating the superintendent into the 7 members that should be in place to ask the tough questions. I will not be just another cog in the machine. I will be the wrench.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
My whole reason for running is based solely on passion. I do not have a background in education. I do not have a background in politics. I am not looking to gain anything from serving other than to create a proper learning environment for the children in MISD that is free of pseudoscience, leftist ideology, and outright lies. We owe that to our kids. A vote for me is a vote for truth and traditional family values.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
My personal hero is Jordan B. Peterson. He may be the single most misrepresented person in recent memory. He is strong of character, resolute of belief, and constantly striving to continue learning. He speaks the unwavering truth at all times, maintains a calm demeanor even in the face of open hostility, and keeps a sense of humor about everything. I truly wish that more people would give him a proper chance and just listen to some of his lectures. I have learned more from his video and podcast series than I ever did in a classroom. He tackles fundamental questions head on and has brought meaning back to thousands of lost souls that have been desperately searching for a purpose. I would be proud to follow his example.
Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?
I think it is most important that voters understand how a school board is meant to be structured. A team of 7 elected officials should have oversight of the district in all matters. That is not how things currently are though. There has been a large push from the state and national level to push something called the "Team of 8" approach. What this does is allows the Superintendent to integrate himself into the governing panel to push whatever agenda he or she sees fit. Because of this approach, the Magnolia ISD school board has not had a single vote that hasn't been unanimous in over four years. Good policy or bad policy, they are all in lockstep. This is not normal. Bad policy needs to be called out and fought against. If elected, I will be happy to swim against the current when logic and morality dictates I do so.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?
I do not believe that experience is necessary to conduct yourself in a productive and professional manner. What is necessary are integrity, passion, and a willingness to learn. I possess all of those qualities. I have had many jobs and some of them were very different from others. I always found success in those roles, not because of past experience, but because I consciously strive to do the right thing in every situation. Once you have that, the rest is just details.
What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?
I think most school boards in this country simply do as they are told. They are just following orders. I think this role should be approached without arrogance and with as much critical thinking as one is capable of. Whatever other skills or expertise that one would need can be developed over time as long as one cares enough to do so. I would not be seeking this role if I didn't care.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
I believe that school board members should be available to the public for questions at all times. I believe that when a budget is presented, every line should be challenged and justified. I believe every vote needs to be deliberated with concern and care. I believe that any school board member that is simply acting as a rubber stamp is neglecting the duties that the residents of their community elected them to enact. I believe that we can do better.
What is your most recent career to date?
I am the General Manager of a local Mediterranean restaurant. I have been in management since I was 18 years old.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would very much like to expand upon opportunities for the students in our district that will not be heading off to university after graduation. I would like to make it easier for our students to get into trade school, apprenticeships, seminary school, as well as other avenues of alternative education and job placement. I would also like to maintain an experimental program that the Magnolia Rotary Club is undertaking to do mock interviews with teenagers to better prepare them for the future when they go out to find employment.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
I have a one year old. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star has been playing on a loop in my head for months now.
What is your favorite book? Why?
Infinite by Jeremy Robinson
Tell us your favorite joke.
Don't trust atoms. They make up everything!
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
I'm going to go with someone that doesn't have superpowers and say Indian Jones. Intelligent, courageous, and formidable. Also willing to give up fortune and glory to do the right thing. My kind of guy.
