Keith Hayashi is the Hawaii Superintendent of Education. He assumed office on July 1, 2022. His current term ends on July 1, 2026.
The Hawaii State Board of Education appointed Hayashi to serve as the acting superintendent on June 17, 2021, to succeed Christina Kishimoto, who did not seek another term.[1]
Biography
Before becoming the Hawaii superintendent of education, Hayashi had been serving as the principal of Waipahu High School since 2009. Before that, he served as interim deputy state superintendent from March to June 2017. He also served as interim state superintendent in July 2017. Hayashi received bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He received master's degrees in educational administration and curriculum and instruction from the same university.[1]

About the office
The Hawaii Superintendent of Education is a state executive position in the Hawaii state government. The superintendent is the administrative head of the Hawaii Department of Education, which runs the state's K-12 public education system. The superintendent is appointed by the Hawaii Board of Education, the executive body responsible for policy and rule-making in the department, and holds office for a term of four years.[2]
