|Fremont needs leaders who acknowledge our problems and are committed to finding solutions. I will focus on comprehensive solutions to the homeless crisis, increasing public safety, supporting local businesses, and engaging the community before decisions are made. Politically moderate, I bring a perspective of inclusivity and a commonsense approach to problem solving. There are rarely perfect answers, but through listening, understanding, and compromise, we can get to the best solutions for the challenges we face.
Through consistent participation in City Council meetings, I have developed an understanding of the budget, challenges, community concerns, and how the council works. I have built the necessary relationships to get things done with my fellow council members.
This led to being endorsed by the East Bay Times, Rick Jones, whose seat I am seeking, the Business for Good Government, and many more.
I have worked hard for you as a private citizen. Now, I humbly ask for your vote to help me do more for our city.
- We need a comprehensive solution to homelessness. Homelessness is a complex problem, requiring a thoughtful solution. I will focus on a comprehensive program that will drive real, meaningful results. The unhoused community is highly diverse and solving this challenge requires equally diverse solutions. The needs of the working poor, who have jobs but don’t earn enough to afford housing, are very different from those suffering from mental illness or addiction issues. The needs of veterans suffering from PTSD are different from those with physical disabilities. We need a comprehensive plan that takes into account the divergent needs of the unhoused community if we are going to be able to solve this challenge.
- Crime and Public Safety must be a priority Crime is up in Fremont 20% in the last two years, according to statistics from the Fremont Police Department (2019 vs 2021). There are many reasons for this, including an understaffed Police Department, where officers are already working mandatory overtime to make up for the lack of personnel. We need to add to our police so that they are fully staffed with properly trained and qualified officers to keep our community safe. This means adding officers that will help enforce the laws, as well as additional community outreach officers that will engage with our young people to build trust between the Police and the community, because it takes all of us working together to create a safer city.
- Business Revitalization Local businesses, battered first by Covid and now by inflation, are closing at an increasing rate. We need to support our local businesses and encourage new investments in Fremont if we are going to be able to shop, dine, and be entertained in the city where we live. Other cities have vibrant shopping and dining areas. Fremont can too. I am committed to revitalizing our businesses and making it as easy as possible for people to visit our local businesses. This is one reason why I have been endorsed by the Business for Good Government.
I will work to bring the community and our Police officers together. We must support the Police and make sure that they have the best people, training, and equipment to safely protect our community. It is imperative that the community and the Police work together for a safer Fremont.
We can make our roads safe and efficient for all users. As someone who commuted to work on a bicycle, I know from personal experience that we can make our roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians without sacrificing traffic flow for the overwhelming majority of people that commute in cars. Both are possible. We do not have to sacrifice efficiency for safety.
