Elections
2015
Three of the nine at-large seats on the Sachem Central School District Board of Education were up for general election on May 19, 2015. Prior to the 2015 election, seats were elected by the voters at-large, but candidates ran for a specific seat. In 2015, the elections switched to be fully at-large. This meant that the three seats were on a joint ballot. Voters could vote for up to three candidates in the race, and the three highest vote recipients were elected to the board.
The seats held by incumbents Douglas Duncan Jr., Michael J. Isernia and Robert Scavo were on the ballot. Duncan did not file to run for re-election, leaving Isernia and Scavo to run against three challengers: Kelli Burnham, William A. Coggin and Laura Slattery.
Isernia was defeated in the general election while Scavo retained his seat. Returning candidate Coggin and newcomer Slattery won the other two seats up for election.

Board members were elected at large by the district as a whole, but each seat on the board is considered distinct and elected separately. Ballotpedia assigned generic titles to all nine seats on the board to prevent confusion. These seat titles are arbitrary and do not reflect the status or seniority of the board members holding them.

Campaign themes
2015
Burnham highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:
“ | As far as the recent issues are concerned here is how I feel and what I stand for. My bottom line is "for the children." As a teacher I fully understand what is expected of our educators and how they have been expected to "do more, with less". I am in full support of bringing back bodies into our buildings. This in turn will lower class size, which will benefit ALL the children of Sachem. I also agree that extra curricular activities are important in making our children well rounded. In regards to the CC, again, as a teacher I love to challenge students and raise the standards. However, I DO NOT agree with high stakes testing and the overall implementation of the CC. I am also against teachers being accountable for their students’ performance on just a few specific tests.[8] | ” |
