- Taxes. We can find ways to pay for services without raising taxes. Sedgwick County would benefit from a grants department with dedicated efforts on acquiring and maintaining grants county-wide. There is money available and Sedgwick County could increase grants revenue to shore up programs that are currently struggling.
- Human Infrastructure. Our communities deserve a functional government. We know that County employees are working hard, and we need to critically examine the hundreds of empty positions so that services can run efficiently. We need to attract and retain talent to deliver the best services possible.
- Mental Health and Public Safety. These systems are linked and both overwhelmed with individuals involved in both places. We must take a look at innovative ways, like specialty courts, to address pressing issues. Domestic violence is a significant problem in our community, Sedgwick County leads the state in domestic violence cases. Sedgwick County needs to examine domestic violence funding and consider a specialty domestic violence court.
Domestic violence and women's issues are important to Kelli. Sedgwick County is reporting the highest number of domestic violence cases in the state of Kansas. We must do better. We need to re-examine funding for domestic violence providers in our community, and look at ways to better address this such as a domestic violence court.
