Biography
Hastings earned his bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University. He later earned a graduate certificate in teaching at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. His professional experience includes working as a realtor.[1]

Elections for the North Carolina House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 6, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 28, 2014. Incumbent Kelly Hastings was unopposed in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[8][9][10][11]
2012
Hastings ran for re-election in 2012. He defeated Pearl Burris Floyd in the May 8, 2012, Republican primary. The race was a rematch from 2010, when Hastings defeated then-incumbent Floyd. Hastings defeated Jamar McKoy (D) and Lewis B. Guignard, Jr. (L) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[12][13][14]

2010
On November 2, 2010, Hastings won election to the North Carolina House of Representatives. Hastings defeated incumbent Pearl Burris Floyd in the Republican primary on May 4 by a margin of 1,368-1,229.[15] Floyd was seeking her second term. Hastings' opponent in the November 2 general election was John Eaker (D).[16][17]
