Expand all | Collapse all

Kelly Kautz has spent more than 20 years using her voice to stand up for people who too often go unheard — children, families, and communities pushed to the margins.

A respected attorney and fierce advocate, Kelly’s legal work has focused on juvenile court, where she is often the voice for voiceless children navigating abuse, neglect, and systems that too often fail them. She has worked to bring affordable housing to Gwinnett through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and has served as an educational advocate, fighting to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and keep kids supported, not sidelined.

Kelly is a mother, a coach, a volunteer, a professor, an attorney, an advocate and the former Mayor of Snellville. She is a proven servant leader dedicated to doing what is best for our community.
  • I am committed to District 94. I was born and raised in the district. I attended public school and graduated from Brookwood High School. I opened my law practice in the District and chose the District as my home and where I wanted to raise my son. I volunteer here and stay involved with the community. When my ex-husband was a teacher at Lithonia and Tucker High Schools, I helped with the wrestling teams. Now, that I have my son, I coach NFL Flag Football, Baseball and i9 Basketball and have served as president of the PTA.
  • I am committed to the causes I have talked about. As an attorney, I represent abused and neglected children in DFCS care. I advocate against the broken system of DFCS. As an educational advocate, I advocate for the rights of children who are often voiceless. And in my private practice, I routinely advocate for those who have been wronged. But over this past year, my advocacy has not only been professional it has also been personal as I have had to advocate for my son and finding the resources that he needs for his anxiety and OCD- one of the reasons that I chose to run in this race.
  • I have proven leadership and experience. As a former elected official, I am the only candidate with real experience. Working for or volunteering for an elected official is not the same as being the elected official who has to seat in that seat, listen to constituents and ultimately cast the vote. As the first female Mayor of Snellville, I hired the first African-American City Clerk and was locked out of city hall for it. We sued and won at every level all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court. So, I have shown that I may only be one voice, but when it needs to be my voice can be loud. And I am not afraid to use it for doing what is right. And as a lawyer, I know how to write and fix our laws that are broken.
My top 3 priorities are healthcare including mental health, public education including a new funding formula, expansion of pre-k programs, attorneys for students facing tribunals, and apprenticeship programs to match the workforce; and making our community affordable again so families can put down roots with affordable housing and make a living where families thrive don't just survive with a living wage.
