I grew up in a family with a lot of love, but not much money. Mom and Dad each had a couple of years in college, but I was the first in my family to get a degree.
We moved a lot- and I learned how to talk to people I didn't know, what it feels like to be an outsider, and that people are the same everywhere. We all want the same things- to be safe and comfortable, to have a good life, and to give our kids the chance to have a better life.
It was not an easy decision to run for office. It would easy to sit this one out. But who would fight for us? I'm not rich - I don't have many rich friends.
But I do have friends and family that need government to work better for them.
Gay and Trans friends and family who want to feel safe and marry who they want
Black friends who want to know their grown sons don't leave the house with a target on their back for driving while black
Friends with a uterus who don't want fewer rights because of it
Friends with children in school who need an investment in public education, not it's destruction
And everyone I know wants their voting rights protected, wants to feel safe from threats of assault weapons everywhere they go, Wants to seek healthcare without the fear of medical debt.
Government needs to do better. We can do better!Together!
- Public tax dollars need to stay in public schools!
- Human rights apply to everyone - whether you're a voter, a worker, a woman or gay or trans, your rights should be protected.
- Healthcare access and affordability are key issues and need to be addressed.
