I am Kelly Peterson, a lifelong Texan, small business owner, and longtime public servant. I served for four years as District Director for State Representative Sam Harless, where I helped thousands of constituents navigate state agencies and resolve real-world problems. I have lived in House District 126 for over 20 years and raised my family here. I am running to continue serving this community with experience, integrity, and a focus on results.
  • Experience that delivers results – I have direct, hands-on experience working inside the Texas House, where I consistently helped constituents resolve complex issues by navigating state agencies, cutting through bureaucracy, and delivering measurable outcomes. I have worked closely with legislators, staff, and local officials to translate community concerns into action. This experience gives me a clear understanding of how the legislative process works and how to move policy and constituent priorities forward effectively.
  • Public safety and infrastructure matter – Safe neighborhoods and resilient infrastructure are core responsibilities of state government and should never be treated as optional or reactive. Public safety is foundational to economic stability and quality of life, and infrastructure must keep pace with growth to prevent flooding, congestion, and rising long-term costs. The State has a responsibility to partner with local governments, prioritize funding, and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on projects that deliver measurable protection and mobility for communities.
  • Responsible, limited government – Taxpayer dollars should be spent wisely, transparently, and with measurable outcomes. State government must focus on core responsibilities, avoid unnecessary growth, and ensure programs are regularly reviewed for effectiveness. Fiscal discipline protects families and small businesses from higher taxes and inflation driven by inefficient spending. Every dollar should have a clear purpose, clear oversight, and clear results for the people it is intended to serve.
I am most passionate about public safety, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure because these are the core functions of effective state government. Public safety is essential to strong communities, and the State must support law enforcement and practical policies that keep neighborhoods safe. Fiscal responsibility protects families and small businesses from unnecessary tax burdens and requires transparency and measurable results. Infrastructure—especially flood mitigation and transportation—is critical in House District 126, where growth and recurring flooding demand proactive planning to protect property, mobility, and quality of life.
