|Over the years I have been put in many different difficult situations when negotiating pay and safe working environments. About 6 years ago I began mentoring women starting off in my field and support them as they navigate the same situations. I remember what it was like to not have that support and how alone that can feel. Showing up for others is key and has built amazing relationships.
A few years ago I started volunteer coaching youth basketball. At first coaching was a way to show up for my daughter who at 7 was nervous about joining a team. The entire experience is something I absolutely love. I did not play in basketball in high school and have had to learn on the job. Now coaching these kids is one of my most favorite things to do. I love reinforcing team work and good sportsmanship and our last season before the pandemic we were undefeated.- I will fight to expand access to affordable healthcare for all Georgians. This is my top priority. If the COVID pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we cannot depend on employment based insurance to cover our needs. By fully expanding medicaid we can ensure Georgians have access to care when they need it most.
- Protecting and supporting our public education system is key for Georgia's future . We need to provide our educators and students with necessary resources not strip their budgets to hit a bottom line. I will vote for creative ways to generate revenue that will not hurt the everyday Georgian but ensure we are set up to thrive.
- As our district and state grows we must be intentional in where we focus our resources and ensure we are supporting both our economy and community. We cannot allow rapid industrialization without consideration of its impact on property values, school quality, or the integrity of the remaining rural and agricultural landscape. I will fight for intentional growth that will build our economy without sacrificing the district we know and love.
There is nothing convenient or easy with childbirth and every story is different. I share my stories with you because I am here today and able to share these stories. Every day women in Georgia are dying because they do not have the access to care they need. I want them to be able to tell their stories. This is why I am running.
I believe it would be great for anyone seeking or holding public office to have worked in the service industry at some point. Being able to see things from a different perspective is always a good thing.
My professional experience in navigating personalities, large budgets and tight schedules will translate over well. I would like to see more people without a background in politics running for office. These are seats that represent the communities so they should be held by those who are in the community.
As your Senator I will fight for a nonpartisan, independent commission to draw our district lines including working with groups such as fairdistrictsga.org.
I'll work to undo HB 566, the gerrymandering bill that my opponent put in place in 2015, which moved the district line to replace Black voters with White voters. This change was challenged in federal court for racial gerrymandering and diluting minority votes in violation of the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
