I am a wife, mother, animal lover and business owner. I am also extremely passionate about helping people and making a difference in my community. Every day I try to do something that makes someone's life better no matter how small.

Over the years I have been put in many different difficult situations when negotiating pay and safe working environments. About 6 years ago I began mentoring women starting off in my field and support them as they navigate the same situations. I remember what it was like to not have that support and how alone that can feel. Showing up for others is key and has built amazing relationships.

A few years ago I started volunteer coaching youth basketball. At first coaching was a way to show up for my daughter who at 7 was nervous about joining a team. The entire experience is something I absolutely love. I did not play in basketball in high school and have had to learn on the job. Now coaching these kids is one of my most favorite things to do. I love reinforcing team work and good sportsmanship and our last season before the pandemic we were undefeated.
  • I will fight to expand access to affordable healthcare for all Georgians. This is my top priority. If the COVID pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we cannot depend on employment based insurance to cover our needs. By fully expanding medicaid we can ensure Georgians have access to care when they need it most.
  • Protecting and supporting our public education system is key for Georgia's future . We need to provide our educators and students with necessary resources not strip their budgets to hit a bottom line. I will vote for creative ways to generate revenue that will not hurt the everyday Georgian but ensure we are set up to thrive.
  • As our district and state grows we must be intentional in where we focus our resources and ensure we are supporting both our economy and community. We cannot allow rapid industrialization without consideration of its impact on property values, school quality, or the integrity of the remaining rural and agricultural landscape. I will fight for intentional growth that will build our economy without sacrificing the district we know and love.
The current state of reproductive healthcare in Georgia is extremely important to me. More women die in Georgia during and around childbirth than in any other state in the U.S. This in itself is unacceptable but rather than address this situation head on, our current leadership has been playing with the lives of our mothers, daughters and sisters by not increasing access to healthcare. This subject is very personal to me as I had dangerous complications with the birth of both of my children. With my daughter I had hemorrhaging so extreme I nearly lost my life. Three days after leaving the hospital I hemorrhaged again and had to be rushed to the nearest hospital which luckily was only 15 minutes away. Any longer and my husband would have been widowed with a brand new baby. With my son four years later I experienced internal bleeding from slipped sutures and immediately started to crash.
There is nothing convenient or easy with childbirth and every story is different. I share my stories with you because I am here today and able to share these stories. Every day women in Georgia are dying because they do not have the access to care they need. I want them to be able to tell their stories. This is why I am running.
Transparency, integrity and the willingness to admit you are wrong are characteristics I think are most important for an elected official. I want people representing me who tip well and put away the shopping cart when no one is looking.
My very first job was working the drive through counter at a mom & pop burger joint called Jimmy Deans. I was 14 years old and made $4.25/hour. I loved that place and was there for about a year. What I remember most is that I ate so much while at work I rarely left with a paycheck. The had the best pastrami topped hamburgers and fried zucchini.
I believe it would be great for anyone seeking or holding public office to have worked in the service industry at some point. Being able to see things from a different perspective is always a good thing.
The Alienist by Caleb Carr. I love historical fiction. This book combines murder mystery and the beginning of forensic science. I encourage everyone to check it out.
I think I would want to be Olivia Pope from the TV show Scandal. Smart, powerful and played by Kerry Washington.
Michael Jackson's version of the song "Somebody's watching me". My 7 year old keeps singing it.
I believe having previous political experience could be negative and beneficial but I do not believe its necessary. We have to navigate government and politics every day whether its recognized or not. Every law, every ordinance guides what we are allowed or not allowed to do in our daily lives.
My professional experience in navigating personalities, large budgets and tight schedules will translate over well. I would like to see more people without a background in politics running for office. These are seats that represent the communities so they should be held by those who are in the community.
I believe we need to end gerrymandering. For decades members of Georgia's House and Senate have been drawing their own district maps, picking the voters most likely to keep them in power. My opponent has been a leader in the assault on voting rights, which has amounted to racial gerrymandering to keep himself in power - a blatant unconstitutional act. Gerrymandering cripples our democracy, creating ever more extreme partisan politics and empowers elected officials who only feel accountable to certain voters. It's time for this to end: Georgians should pick their representatives, not the other way around.

As your Senator I will fight for a nonpartisan, independent commission to draw our district lines including working with groups such as fairdistrictsga.org.

I'll work to undo HB 566, the gerrymandering bill that my opponent put in place in 2015, which moved the district line to replace Black voters with White voters. This change was challenged in federal court for racial gerrymandering and diluting minority votes in violation of the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

I do not believe that either party should use gerrymandering to retain control. Having a transparent process that includes community participation to redistrict is the only fair way to outline who represents an area.

My heart is in local politics. I love the opportunity to see tangible results from the decisions made at the local level.
