Elections for the Alabama House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Kelvin Lawrence was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Loretta Grant was unopposed in the Republican primary. Lawrence defeated Grant and Cedric Coley (Independence Party) in the general election.[2][3][4][5][6]

Noteworthy events
2024 Arrest on forgery charges
On July 8, 2024, Lawrence was arrested on felony forgery charges. Attorney General of Alabama Steve Marshall’s office said that Lawrence is charged with second-degree forgery and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. The attorney general said the indictment alleges that Lawrence, with the “intent to defraud, falsely made, completed, or altered a builder’s license.” As of July 10, 2024, Lawrence has declined to comment on the matter.[7]
On July 26, 2024, Lawrence pleaded not guilty to two felony forgery charges: one of forgery in the second degree, and one of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. As of July 30, the court has yet to set a trial date.[8]
