I’ve worked in a lot of organizations, seen a lot and met a lot of people. I have also utilized the “safety net” including welfare (TANF), food stamps (SNAP) and unemployment.
Perhaps I am neuro diverse since I seem to have the ability and effort. In a nutshell, I’ve had a wide range of professional and personal experiences. Given the lateness of this submission, I may have undiagnosed ADHD.
I am decidedly not political since I’m an honest, fairly socially awkward person who’s a terrible public speaker and who can’t “read” nor “work” a room. Also, in an attempt to be 100% authentic, these questions have not been proofed by anyone but me.
I am running for office because I enjoy helping people and want our state to be the best it can be.- In Vermont, government isn't working for the people. I view business, religion and government to be 3 silos that affect everyone. Business provides us needed goods and services. Religion affects "nones" or religiously unaffiliated by way of restricting women's personal health choices and having tax exempt status. I view government to protect citizens from unscrupulous business and religion in addition to providing defense, education, infrastructure among many other items. Of these 3 silos, the one that has the worst reputation is the one that has to do the most. Business and religion can pick and choose who they serve, government can't. Presently Vermont isn't serving everyone.
- I have stated in other profiles that I am only seeking only one term as either representative or senator since I plan on running for governor the next biennium. I needed to get signatures in order to be placed on the ballot, and I view getting elected to the legislature as a requirement to run for governor. The incumbents that I am running against are doing great jobs and I feel bad that if I'm elected that would mean that one of the 3 wouldn't be elected. That's somewhat lessened by the fact that I would be in the legislature for only one term, freeing up the seat, hopefully for a current incumbent to return.
- My final key message is that for all these questionnaires, surveys and profiles, they are simply words. An ambitious candidate could view responses to this survey and compile the most compelling answers. Again, they are just words. Past actions indicate how a candidate will legislate. In the past, questionnaires, surveys, profiles and interviews were the only way for a voter to know a candidate. Presently because of the internet and social media, the past actions of candidates can easily be shared with thousands. I have barely met the residency of the legislature, but I think that I've made an impact on Brattleboro and Southeastern Vermont. I'm hopeful that people who have met me will trust me to do the right thing.
I also think that the governor and the legislature should work in tandem to make Vermont be the best that it could be.
