In early September of 2011 two Republican activists attempted to have Moellman removed from the ballot by filing a lawsuit that claimed nearly half of his nominating signatures were flawed or fictitious. Under state law, most minor-party candidates need 5,000 valid signatures to be placed on the ballot, while Republicans and Democrats are only required to have two signatures.[2] The suit was dropped on September 12.[3]

2011

Moellman outlined his platform on his 2011 campaign website:[4]

  • 1. Update: Bring operations of the office up to date.
  • "Find any inefficiencies due to outdated practices, and remedy them."
  • 2. Automate: Streamline repetitive activities
  • "Anything that is done repeatedly can be made more efficient. In his professional career, Ken has streamlined and automated everyday tasks for companies large and small. This leads to long-term cost-savings."
  • 3. Eliminate: Develop and present a transition plan
  • "For years, there has been talk of eliminating the office and transitioning the remaining roles of the Treasurer to other offices. Ken will develop a transition plan to move the functions of the office to other divisions of government."
  • "Attrition not layoffs - Any employees close to retirement will ride through the term, and we'll help the rest relocate within state government."
