I was born in Forsyth County, was educated in Forsyth County, & am now employed by Forsyth County. I've spent most of my life living in this wonderful area of North Carolina & have been privileged to see many perspectives of life across our county. I grew up comfortably in northwest Winston-Salem, but through my middle school experience at the old Hanes-Lowrance on the corner of Indiana & Ivy Avenues, I quickly learned that life in this county is not the same for everyone.

I recognize the opportunities that I had growing up, & I want my students to be provided with the same chances to grow, develop, and appreciate life in this county the same way I did. As a young educator, and a lifelong resident of Forsyth County, my candidacy will provide a voice in our local government for the next generation of this community. Our current Board of Commissioners includes members who have been entrenched in local government for decades. These individuals are interested in the status quo, & not innovative, progressive solutions to move our community forward.

My name is Kendall Fields, & I am here to provide a fresh perspective on the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners that is reflective of the county today, not the county of the past. A Forsyth County where every resident is able to access the tools necessary to become the best that they can be.
  • North Carolina has been rated as CNBC's Top State for Business in both 2022 and 2023. Forsyth County is home to a premier ACC higher education institution, one of the nation’s top HBCUs & nearly 50,000 undergraduates. This abundant student population forms a strong foundation for our future workforce. Along with this built in population for future workforces, our county also sits on the intersection of US 52, US 421 and I-40. As statewide development projects continue to take off, we need leaders who are advocating for our community. As a County Commissioner, I am committed to stimulating economic investment in our county & driving us toward a fresh economic horizon instead of dwelling in our agricultural past.
  • A robust public education system is the surest way to guarantee the building blocks for our future. As a County Commissioner I will fight to bring back financial incentives, like increased supplement pay for advanced degrees, to attract and attain the best educators possible. Taxpayer funds allocated toward education in Forsyth County should be used to help fund our children's education, and as a County Commissioner I will make sure that those funds are making Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools the best schools in the state.
  • Abundant affordable housing is a major crisis throughout the US, & Forsyth County is no different. Fixing this problem can provide numerous benefits to an area. The establishment of a secure haven for daily sustenance, rest, and work, insulated from the external uncertainties, offers not only a tangible shelter but also a vital psychological refuge for both children and adults. As a County Commissioner, I will be dedicated to advocating for policies that foster the ongoing expansion of housing & infrastructure, leveraging the optimal utilization of our county's valuable land resources. This entails a holistic approach that encompasses the development of both single-family & multi-family homes.
Along with the three key areas I've already touched in, I firmly believe that government should be for the people, by the people. Our current County Commission lacks the fundamental transparency that is needed of local government. In order to have productive conversations with community stakeholders regarding land use and development, education, housing, the public needs to be able to provide input to their elected officials. Hosting Commission meetings during work hours fundamentally robs the public of that ability.
Transparency, Accountability, Openness to learn, Willingness to listen to experts and stakeholders
To find the best ways to allocate county resources and policies to promote an inclusive and equitable community.
Bartender in a college bar during undergraduate and graduate school. After completing my education I began my job at Parkland High School, where I currently work.
If the government is spending tax payers money, tax payers should know where it is going. Likewise, if the public elects someone than they should be held accountable to the public.
