Ken D. Ballard is a judge of the Thirteenth Circuit Court in West Virginia. He assumed office in 2021.

He was appointed to the 13th Circuit on April 26, 2021 by Gov. Jim Justice to replace Tod J. Kaufman.[1]
Biography
Ballard received his bachelor's degree from Marshall University in 1997 and his J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law in 2001. Prior to his appointment to the circuit court, Ballard was a family court judge for the Eleventh Family Circuit where he had been the Chief Family Court Judge since 2010.[1]

Selection method

Judges of the West Virginia Family Courts are each elected to six- and eight-year terms. Their initial term is six years and every subsequent term is eight years.[3] The elections for this court are nonpartisan contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state citizen, a circuit resident, at least 30 years of age and have five years of law practice in the state.[4]
