Kenneth Mapp
Kenneth Mapp (born in 1954 or 1955 in Brooklyn, New York) was the governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 2015 to 2019. An Independent, Mapp was first elected in 2014 and was defeated in his race for a second term by Albert Bryan, Jr. in 2018.[1][2][3]
Mapp served in the Virgin Islands Legislature for three terms and as lieutenant governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1995 to 1999.
Biography
Mapp began his career in government as a police officer in New York and the Virgin Islands.[2]
Education
Mapp earned a master's in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.[2]
Political career
Mapp was the lieutenant governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1995 to 1999. In 2002, he was appointed as the director of the Public Finance Authority. Previously, he was elected to three terms as a senator in the Virgin Islands Legislature and thereafter became the assistant director of the Industrial Development Commission and director of the Consumer Services Administration.[2]
2010 election
Mapp was defeated by incumbent John Percy de Jongh, Jr. in the November 2, 2010, race for governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands. De Jongh earned 17,535 votes, or 56.3 percent of the vote, while Mapp came in second with 13,580 votes, or 43.6 percent of the vote.[3]
