Kenny Armstrong is a judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals Western Section. He assumed office on September 1, 2014. His current term ends on September 1, 2030.
Armstrong ran for re-election for judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals Western Section. He won in the retention election on August 4, 2022.
Armstrong was appointed to the court by Republican Governor Bill Haslam on June 18, 2014, to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Justice Holly Kirby to the Tennessee Supreme Court. Armstrong assumed office on September 1, 2014.[1] He faced retention by voters in 2016 and won retention to the unexpired term of his predecessor.[2]
Prior to his appointment to the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Armstrong served as a chancellor for the Thirtieth District Chancery Court Part III. He was elected to this court on August 3, 2006, and re-elected on August 7, 2014. He then assumed the bench on the Tennessee Court of Appeals.[3][4]
Biography
Armstrong received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University in 1970 and his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1973.[3] Armstrong began his career working as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1973 to 1974. He then worked as a legal officer for the U.S. Air Force until 1978, when he became a private practice attorney. From 1997 to until his judicial election in 2006, he served as the clerk and master of the Thirtieth District Chancery Court. He then served as a chancellor for the Thirtieth District Chancery Court from 2006 until his appointment to the Tennessee Court of Appeals in 2014.[3]
