Campaign themes

2016

Mann's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

What works well in one part of our state is not necessarily applicable in other areas. Common Core has failed, and our educators have dedicated so much of their time and energy only to have been let down by policies and procedures written and enacted by politicians and leaders who have no input from the teachers on the front lines who serve in West Virginia’s school systems. As a result, our students have historically not been put first in West Virginia. Allowing our teachers to have more input on educational curriculum and practices will enable the students to be more prepared to face the challenges that lay ahead. After all, providing a solid education allows us to realize economic growth and help West Virginia remain vital in an increasingly competitive world. Economic growth in turn provides much needed funding for West Virginia’s deteriorating infrastructure.

The war on drugs has taken a toll on every part of West Virginia. Kenny will focus on eliminating drug abuse and those that are enabling it. A reduction in drug abuse will provide more funding for our educational programs, senior citizen programs, Law Enforcement, First Responders, our faithful Veterans, and more. We are living in tough times. It is past time to address West Virginia’s drug problem.

Not only have drugs wrought havoc on West Virginia, but the current war on coal is having a negative impact on our state and our people. President Obama’s “victory” has been West Virginia’s defeat. God blessed our Coal Miners with a good work ethic and the knowledge to produce and mine our state’s most abundant resource. Kenny will work to secure our coal industry and focus upon expanding technology to produce a more environmentally friendly product instead of shuttering an entire industry that provides for the state of West Virginia’s people and the United States as a whole. We have a valuable resource not only beneath the ground that we walk upon, but with the wonderful and dedicated people that surround us. The people of this great state should never fall victim to political bullies. Washington has politically corrected West Virginians away from their dinner tables and livelihood, and enough is enough fellow West Virginians. The time to act is now.[6]
