An effort to recall Kenny Matassa from his position as parish president of Ascension Parish in Louisiana was launched in March 2017. The recall was initiated due to an attempted bribery allegation against Matassa. Matassa denied all wrongdoing. Brennan Howell was the chairman of the recall effort.[1] On March 16, 2017, the Ascension Parish Council voted 6-4 in favor of declaring that the council no longer had confidence in Matassa's ability to lead the parish.[2] Recall petitions containing signatures were not turned in and the recall did not go to a vote.

Recall proponents had 180 days to collect about 25,175 valid signatures, which was one-third of registered voters in the parish. The signatures would then have had to be verified by the Ascension Parish Registrar of Voters Office.[1]
