Kent City Regional Fire Authority Creation (April 2010)
There was a Kent City Regional Fire Authority Creation measure on the April 27 ballot in King County for voters in the city of Kent.
This measure was approved
- YES 12,511 (72.23%)
- NO 4,809 (27.77%)[1]
This measure proposed the creation of a regional fire district in the Kent city area, meaning the Kent city fire department will be merged with King County Fire District No. 37 and a joint authority will be created to service the Kent city area. Council members believed that this would be a better way to ensure fire protection and also would provide a more fair method of taxing residents. In addition to a district sales tax charge to fund the new authority, a fire benefit charge will also be applied to houses based on square footage and fire protection, such as alarms and sprinklers, on the premise. This measure needed a 60 percent approval rate in order to pass.[2]
