The candidate filing deadline was January 26, 2016. All 100 seats in the Kentucky House of Representatives were up for election in 2016.

Heading into the election, Democrats held a 53-46 majority with one vacancy. Republicans won control of the Kentucky House of Representatives for the first time since 1920, providing the GOP with a new trifecta in Kentucky.
