Elections for the Kentucky State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 28, 2014.
Following the general election, there was no change to the majority control of the Kentucky State Senate. The Republican Party strengthened their hold on the chamber by increasing their total seats from 23 to 26. The Democratic Party sustained a loss of two seats, dropping from 16 to 14. The chamber's vacant seat was filled during the general election.

Qualifications
To be eligible to serve in the Kentucky State Senate, a candidate must be:[1]
- At least 30 years of age at the time of the election
- A citizen of Kentucky
- Resided in the state 6 years preceding the election
- Resided in the district for the last year
Competitiveness
Candidates unopposed by a major party
In 10 of the 19 districts up for election in 2014, there was only one major party candidate running for election. A total of two Democrats and eight Republicans were guaranteed election barring unforeseen circumstances.
Two major party candidates faced off in the general election in 9 of the 19 districts up for election.
Primary challenges
A total of three incumbents faced primary competition on May 20. Four incumbents did not seek re-election in 2014 and another 11 incumbents advanced past the primary without opposition. The state senators facing primary competition included:
- District 16: Incumbent Sara Beth Gregory (R) was defeated in the Republican primary by George Maxwell "Max" Wise.
- District 20: Incumbent Paul R. Hornback (R) defeated Tony McCurdy in the Republican primary.
- District 38: Incumbent Dan Malano Seum (R) defeated Brenda Sue "Susie" Board in the Republican primary.
Retiring incumbents
