Kentucky held nonpartisan elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on May 17, 2016. There were three contested races in the primary election: the 30th and 41st Circuit Family Courts and the 43rd District Court. The general election featured 11 contested races and three unopposed candidates. Incumbents ran in half of the races. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 26, 2016.[1]

All candidates participate in nonpartisan primaries. If more than two candidates compete in a race, the two with the highest number of votes advance to the general election.[2]

Judges of the Kentucky Circuit Courts are elected to eight-year terms in nonpartisan elections. They must run for re-election if they wish to serve subsequent terms.[3]
