|- I have always felt there was a calling on my life. My desire and willingness to see success in others is rooted in my personal story of growth, strength, and determination. As my history dictates, I will continue to work diligently to promote awareness, to improve quality of life, and create opportunities and access for families experiencing social and economic barriers. I remain heavily involved in the issues of fairness, equality, social justice, violence prevention, and longevity for today’s youth and families.
- I am a veteran of the United States Army, having served six (6) years, a social worker, and mental health professional, who takes pride in being able to help people, strengthen families, and build safer and stronger communities.
- I have heard the voice of the people loud and clear. People and families throughout the District have stated they DO NOT feel valued and their voice is not being heard, As a result, it is necessary to have a trusted advocate in Lansing carrying the voice, personal experiences, and needs of the people forward. Being a leader who has served over 25 years dedicating time and energy to making Genesee County and the State of Michigan a better place to live. I am a driven advocate for Community, Education, and Family..
Promoting safe neighborhoods and environments
Increasing access to mental health services and reducing the stigma
Creating a thriving economy that values and respects the active participation of all
I would say, I look up my supportive family and community. They give me pause as I reflect on the woman I am today, i.e., caregivers, family members, a strong network of friends, and colleagues that caused me, even in my lowest moments to feel important, valued, and capable of being an agent of change, and a true contributor to society. Ubuntu says, "I am because you are," which includes the following values communality, respect, dignity, acceptance, sharing, co-responsibility, humaneness, social justice, fairness, personhood, morality, group solidarity, compassion, joy, love, fulfilment, conciliation, etc..
I am known for optimizing resources to achieve the core mission and vision to provide extensive channels of communication to our most vulnerable and marginalized citizens.
I have verifiable success in managing complex initiatives, creating value-added programs, driving successful community connections while improving the stability and core outcomes to better aide and meet the needs of Citizens
Together, we build community. It takes all of us. Caesar Chavez once said, "We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community.”
I realized on this day, the fragility of our Democracy and how we as people must find common ground to work together, communicate together for the betterment of our County, people, and families.
Secondly, my first actual job with a paycheck was at McDonald's where I learned about teamwork and what it means to part of the working-class, and the necessity of making a livable wage. My humble beginnings with a lemonade stand and working at McDonald's helped me to become the woman I am today who values hard work, service, and perseverance.
