Recall efforts
2025
An effort to recall David Manriquez and Steven Rodrigue from their positions on the Kern High School District school board began in December 2025 and is underway.[1]
The recall effort is related to a vote taken during the October 6, 2025, meeting of the Kern High School District school board. The board voted 3-2 in favor of a resolution titled Resolution of the Kern High School District Board of Trustees in Support of Title IX, a draft of which can be read in full here. Manriquez and Rodrigue voted against the resolution.[2]
Manriquez was first elected to the board to represent Trustee Area 3 in 2020 and was re-elected in 2024 with 50.4 percent of the vote. Rodrigue was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in Trustee Area 2 in 2023 and was re-elected in 2024 with 35.3 percent of the vote.

Overlapping state house districts
The table was limited to the lower chamber because it provides the most granularity. State house districts tend to be more numerous and therefore smaller than state senate or U.S. House districts. This provides an impression of the partisan affiliations in the area.

Academic performance
Each year, state and local education agencies use tests and other standards to assess student proficiency. Although the data below was published by the U.S. Department of Education, proficiency measurements are established by the states. As a result, proficiency levels are not comparable between different states and year-over-year proficiency levels within a district may not be comparable because states may change their proficiency measurements. To protect student privacy, percentages are reported as ranges for groups of 300 students or fewer. If five or fewer students were included in a data set, the data will display as "PS."[4]
The following table shows the percentage of district students who scored at or above the proficiency level each school year:
