2014

Donovan's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

Education

  • Excerpt: "As an experienced educator, I’ve seen the huge challenges our kids and teachers face daily in the classroom and, if elected, will strive to find balanced solutions for all of our schools."

Economy And Job Creation

  • Excerpt: "I believe in the gumption of Coloradans and will fight to strengthen our rural economy and tourism industry in the State Senate. To solve the problems we face in our district while growing our economy, I will fight to leverage the resources of the state to provide economic benefits for local communities."

Our Water And Natural Resources

  • Excerpt: "I believe in keeping water in the basin where it’s born and as your voice in the State Senate, will defend that principle. Water is also critical to many cherished past-times in our district, such as FIBArk, which celebrates its 66th year in 2014."

Guns

  • Excerpt: "The current law passed by Denver limiting high-capacity magazines is unenforceable and I would not have supported it. I believe that gun owners will exercise personal responsibility and discretion in the interest of public safety when selling their weapons and will work to make sure that background checks help and do not hinder that process. But I do support making sure that convicted criminals or the mentally ill cannot get guns."

Health Care

  • Excerpt: "I will work with stakeholders in the area, as well as care providers, patients and business leaders to bring affordable health care to our communities while ensuring that families can choose a plan that fits their needs. I believe in a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, and I will defend that right in the State Senate."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Colorado

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Colorado scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
