I was born and raised in northwest Wichita. I have lived in the Maize school district with my husband since 2003. Our two children have attended schools in the Maize district for more than 10 years. I have been actively involved in my children’s classrooms, volunteering on the PTO and substitute teaching in the district.

I have been engaged in current events and projects around the district through my various relationships with other parents, teachers and administrators. Over the course of the last year, I led a group of parents in hosting a food drive for Maslow’s pantry, adopted a district family for Christmas and implemented the “Teacher of the Week” program, encouraging staff appreciation. I have a long history of service in the district and I believe this will help me as a member of the board.

I am committed to being prepared and knowledgeable on current issues that affect the district. I hope to bring transparency, accountability and focused engagement to the board and ultimately the entire district. I feel it’s important for board members to have open dialogue with members of our community and be responsive to their concerns. When we work together with parents, students, and teachers, we can accomplish so much more for the district.

This will be my first campaign for public office, which I feel is an advantage. My agenda is clear: to advocate for our students, families and teachers and help keep Maize the great district we know and love.
  • I believe in transparency. I know the importance of providing parents with access to the discussions, supporting data and action steps developed by the school district. I believe in being forthright in the decision making process and humble when needing to change course.
  • I will hold the right people accountable and you can hold me accountable. I am passionate about following through on my responsibilities and following up to ensure every need has been addressed. I am prepared and ready to roll up my sleeves to get the job done, dedicating my time and energy to protect the values of excellence and leadership in our amazing district.
  • I believe our district is best served when teachers, parents and community members all play active roles in decision making processes. I welcome varying viewpoints and understand the importance of hearing from parents before making decisions.
Two major concerns I have are teacher salary/retention and test scores. I believe change will require committed effort by the board to review the classroom needs assessment — which evaluates how we spend money on learning as priority #1. That includes teachers — salaries and retention. Maize has a budget that exceeds $66 million annually, thorough review will need to happen before any changes are made. As for standardized testing, we need to ensure students, parents and patrons of Maize that we are catching reading problems at an early age and intervene before it’s statistically more difficult to correct. We should be especially focusing on reading and math proficiency at 3rd grade so proper interventions such as tutoring, summer school, and child-specific programs are readily available. I would like to see after school programs established, or improved upon, to help the kids who are struggling and need additional intervention.
I look up to my dad. He is a perfect example of putting others first. He will go out of his way to help someone, giving them the shirt off his back if that is what is needed. He doesn't do it for recognition. He simply does it because he likes to help people. There is not a day that goes by that he is not doing something for someone else.
I think an elected official needs to remain open-minded, transparent, engaged and be willing to be held accountable. I welcome varying viewpoints and understand the importance of hearing from parents before making a decision. I may not always agree with each parent but the role of a board member is to listen to the concerns of all patrons. I will be open and honest with my votes and will be humble when I need to change course. I would serve the district with integrity.
I am very solution driven. I like to problem solve and find solutions. I believe this will be an asset to our board. I am determined to leave no stone unturned when finding solutions and meeting objectives. I am passionate about following through on my responsibilities and following up to ensure every need has been addressed.
The school board sets policy and holds the right people accountable to make sure those policies are implemented correctly.
My constituents would be the voters in the district, as well as all families, students and staff.
I will continue doing what I have been doing for the last two years. I will make myself available to anyone who has questions or concerns. I plan to send out a newsletter every month following the board meetings. This letter will recap the meeting and talk about where I stood on the issues that we voted on and why I voted the way I did. I believe our district is best served when all stakeholders play an active role in the decision making process. I will also encourage the schools to let parents back in the building to volunteer in the classrooms like they did pre-pandemic.
