Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Bruce Westerman (R) and Kerry Hicks (L) ran unopposed in their respective primaries. Westerman defeated Hicks in the general election on November 8, 2016. No Democratic candidates filed to run for the seat.[2][3]
